I'm trying.

This running thing is tough. I didn't get to run at all this weekend. When I woke up at 8 am and it was already 80 degrees and humid, I knew I was going to skip it. That's straight miserable. Speaking of miserable that's basically how I would describe Tuesday's workout. I was nearly in tears. For some reason I had intense pains in my shins. I am using the Couch to 5K program to get back into my running groove. So, I started week one again this week since I missed so many days. That means 90 seconds of walking and 60 seconds of jogging. This alternates for 20 minutes. I continued to do the program for about 15 minutes but it got to the point that I didn't know how I was going to get back to my car. So I headed back and called it a day. It was a crappy workout. I didn't feel like I got anything out of it and I'm not even remotely sore today. So frustrating.

I iced my shins when I got home last night and they started to feel much better. I could barely drive after my workout. It was such a strange experience. My only idea as to why I would have that pain would be the fact that wore flip flops all weekend and my shins probably felt the effects of it. I'm talking Old Navy or hard soled flip flops. Not the best things for your feet!

The only upside to the workout was my new Couch to 5K app. It tells you when to walk/run. A.Maz.Ing. Seriously, no more checking my watch constantly. It was great. The app was on sale last weekend for Memorial Day and I only paid $.99. I'm not sure what the regular price is but it's worth checking out if you're interested in a great running app for beginners.

Apparently, I'm the worst iPhone user of all time because I did not have The Weather Channel app. My sister found this to be the absurd thing she has ever heard. The fact that I would use the iPhone weather app to check the temperature was truly preposterous! In my defense, I have the news on every morning so I can hear the weather and traffic. It's rare that I need to check the weather for any other reason. But, I downloaded the app so I'm no longer living in the weather app stone age!

Do any of you just use the iPhone weather app? Or am I seriously the only person on the planet that used it? Please tell me if there are any other life altering apps out there that I need. I really don't like being so behind!

Ladies, I may or may not be in tomorrow. Saturday is the BRIDAL SHOWER...finally. I'm stressed to the max. I have 4 different lists going right now. I'll probably be barely holding it together. I plan to post pictures of my sister's gifts (from me) and the shower in general on Monday! According to The Weather Channel App it is supposed to be 69 degrees with 30% chance of rain. If we could all pray to the rain gods that it holds off until at least 5 pm, that would be great!

P.S. This is my 300th post...that's just plain crazy!

We aren't asking for a lot.

My blog title pretty much sums this up...I'm from a small town. I love this town. It's so cute during the holidays with lights on all of the trees lining Main St. There is a great sense of community. I experienced that community first hand while my dad was deployed during Desert Storm. I was only 8 years old but the outpouring of love we received when he came home is something I'll never forget. We respect our veteran's and appreciate all of the men and women that serve in 1487th unit of the National Guard based in Eaton, Ohio. With all that being said, my small town has truly impressed me over the past few weeks.

My dad served in the National Guard for the majority of my childhood/teenage years. I spent more days than I can count playing basketball, shooting pool and running around like a crazy person in our Armory. We had a tank that sat on the corner of Main and Vine for over 50 years. In April, the tank was taken away with little to no warning. Our Armory is closed and the unit is being transferred. Because we no longer have an active unit the tank was taken away. It is currently be refurbished in Columbus and its next step is still up for speculation. We feel like we have been robbed of a landmark in our community. I know some people may think this is crazy. But, there is a Facebook group with over 3,000 members that will beg to differ. I understand there are protocols that need to be followed in this kind of situation. But, that tank was given as a gift to our community in 1957 for all of the men that served our country. It belongs to us.

I cannot tell you how many times I climbed on that thing. I'm pretty sure I even got to go inside once. Now we have a plywood cut-out to fill the void.

I wasn't here for the Memorial Day Parade but we took the opportunity to show our love and respect for the Armory and the tank. All 3 of the major news networks in Dayton were there to film the gathering on Monday. Despite near record heat, there was a great crowd and my dad had his 5 minutes of fame

This article expresses the feelings of so many community members. One of my dad's oldest friends and fellow veteran even contributed despite living in California. Honestly, I think Jon might be more fired up than anyone! He isn't taking this lightly, no one is. Jon made the film Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good starring Gary Sinise and is so incredibly supportive our troops.

We aren't asking for much. We just want what is rightfully ours. We want a landmark in our community returned. If not in front of the Armory than put it in Fort St. Clair or in front of the American Legion hall. Something. Somewhere. It belongs to this town. The Armory is one of the oldest in the state. It needs to be renovated in a desperate way. With the unit moving and the conditions inside the Armory not up to par, it will most likely go up for auction. I would hate for it to be torn down and if someone doesn't intervene I have a feeling that is exactly what will happen. I would buy it all if I could. That place helped us get through my dad's deployment and it's a huge part of childhood. I can't bear the thought of not seeing it everyday.

So, that's kind of town I live in and I'm proud to call it home.

It's official...

I love Nashville! It may have been close to 100 degrees on Saturday and I probably lost 20 lbs in perspiration (pretty sure I gained it back in all of the delicious food I consumed) but it still made a lasting impression. I want to go back and spend some time going to all of the little bars. My weekend with my sister, Nik and Jes was a great time. Lots of board games, cocktails, food, reading and great conversation. I also found a new dress for the shower at Forever 21 while we were at a mall in Nashville. So, here's my weekend in pictures.

I need a Which Wish near me. End. Of. Story. So delicious!

So, my iPhone screen cover melted in the sun after spending the afternoon by the pool. That pile of crap at the top was stuck to my screen and I had to peel it off. GROSS! That heat was no joke!

We found a great pool for Sister to enjoy this Summer!

Finally, a dress I actually like...

And now you're all sick of looking at pictures! Remember when I said this about my morning commute on Friday? Well I should have taken it as a clue. It should have taken me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to Northern KY but it took 3 hours. Seriously...3 hours! I was ready to cancel my trip. We arrived at my sisters at 10:30 Ohio time. That means it took us 7 1/2 hours. It should have taken 5 1/2. Not the most enjoyable trip but we made it in one piece despite a few missed exits and detours along the way.

I'll be back tomorrow with an interesting post about my small town and how seriously we take our community! I hope you all enjoy a short week. I'm only working 3 days so I'll be incredibly busy.

The dreaded dress and TN bound...

I got a dress on Wednesday night. It of course was none of the ones I had previously chosen because they only had the peach pleated polka dot dress. Oh and it was HIDEOUS. I looked like I was wearing a large dress instead of a small. Jenn and can attest to this. Not Good! This is what I ended up with. I'm not sold on it. I think the colors are darker/brighter than I had intended and that's why I'm having such a hard time with it.

It fits well and I think it's flattering but I'm not loving the pattern. I might have to run to Forever21 after work next week or something. Maybe, I can just stop somewhere on my way back from TN this weekend. Anyway, this is what I got and I'm not loving it. Go figure.

I'm leaving for TN at 3:00 pm today. It's going to be incredibly hot so my wardrobe consists of sundresses and rompers. I'm really hoping my morning commute is not a glimpse into what Jes and I will be dealing with for our drive. Not kidding, NO ONE would drive the speed limit. I was yelling obscenities on more than one occasion. People refused to let me cross over traffic so I could get off on my exit. I have road rage. I'm the first to admit it but my blood pressure was so high this morning, I was ready to scream!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Enjoy your extra day off and I hope you have some backyard bbq fun!

Helpful Tips??

I wanted to post this yesterday but the video wasn't available online when I did my blog post. Dr. Oz was on the Today Show yesterday discussing medication free ways to help with your allergies. We all know I've been suffering and I think a lot of you have too. I knew most of these things because this isn't my first time around the block but I figured I would share with my Ladies, just in case!

I've never done the neti pot. However, I've done the NeilMed Sinus Rinse.

My aunt informed me while in Key West that the neti pot makes you feel like you're drowning and the sinus rinse gives you more control. I gotta say, it really helped with my cold and allowed me to make it thru the wedding day!

Maybe some of these tips will be helpful in getting you thru the allergy season. Personally, I know I'll need more than big sunglasses and a floppy hat!

I would like to report that I have ran/power walked two days in a row. I'm hanging in there. It hurts but that is to be expected! Happy Thursday Ladies! Almost done for the week and I'm so ready for a long weekend in TN. It's going to be pushing 100 degrees there. OMG.

This has to happen...TODAY

Jenn and I are going shopping this evening. I have to buy a Bridal Shower dress. Seriously, the thing is next weekend. I have put this off long enough. I have compiled a list of LC Lauren Conrad dresses at Kohl's. I'm hoping I have luck. Our Kohl's sometimes doesn't have a huge selection of her dresses so let's all cross our fingers that I find something. There is no alternative. I will be in TN this weekend and I can go shopping in Nashville but I really really really don't want to have to put my sister and Jes through that! Here's what I'm liking...

Ok, so my favorites are the asymmetrical floral, green, navy and yellow. I was dead set on the peach with the polka dots and pleats. I didn't try it on but I did hold it up to myself and it did not look promising. So, we shall see how this all pans out tonight. Knowing myself, I will come home with none of the above. If Kohl's fails me I have TJ Maxx as a back-up. However, you never know what you'll get there! Ladies, help me out. What is your favorite?? All of the pictures link to the site, if you're interested!

Oh and it is going to be 90 degrees in Ohio this weekend. I'm preparing to melt during this outdoor shower next weekend. For real. Why so hot?! 75 would be ideal but I'm sure it will be a scorcher. I should probably scratch any dress with cap sleeves, let's be serious that won't be cute after a few hours in the sun!

Alright Dolls, have a happy Wednesday! I'm so happy this week is almost over already!

Bachelorette and a new mani

So I gave myself a new mani last night while watching The Bachelorette. Multitasking folks! I recently purchased two new Essie colors.

I have been eying the Turquoise and Caicos for a while. I finally bought it the other day with a CVS coupon. I think it looks more green in this picture. For some reason the first coat went on really light. I was a little disappointed. The second coat was much better. Then, disaster struck. My OPI Rapid Dry (quite possibly the best top coat EVER) is at the end of it's life. If any of you use this product you know that it's great until it gets too low then it turns to a stringy clumpy mess. The result is little air bubbles all over my nails. Enter my next purchase!

Essie Luxeffects Pure Pearlfection. This goes on smooth unlike some glitters. It just has a nice shimmer effect. I'm thinking it will distract me from the air bubbles in my polish for the next couple of days until I take it all off.

Who watched The Bachelorette last night? I have a few favorites. Ryan (despite the fact that he looks like he is wearing a bump it in his hair), Chris and Doug. I'm kind of excited to see Alessandro get his handed to him next week. (At least that's who I think it is!) Kalon annoys me, especially his teeth and smile. I'm not sure why. I don't know a lot of the guy's names yet. I need to get on that. I was going to break down my favorite outfits. However, I liked almost everything Emily wore. I recommend checking out Possessionista if you're interested in where to buy anything!

Who are your favorite guys so far this season? Any new nail colors that I need to know about it?

Fro Yo and Wedding Receptions

I hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't get nearly as much accomplished as I would have liked. Gifts were purchased which is good but I know I'll be a crazy person next week! Let's start with this delicious treat I picked up at the grocery store yesterday. It was so hot! So, ice cream definitely needed to happen.

Seriously, this is the bomb. So freaking good and creamy. I had to make myself stop eating after I downed a 1/3 of the container. I would have finished the entire thing off.

My cousin's at home reception was Saturday. Remember her Key West Wedding?? I forgot my camera at home and the iPhone was not going to take great pics in the dim lighting so I have nothing to share with you. It was a great reception. Amazing food, candy bar, delicious cupcakes and key lime pies. Don't judge me but I had a large vanilla cupcake and mini key lime pie (think mini muffin size) then about 30 minutes later I decided I needed a mini red velvet cupcake. They were all so good! Plus, I had a bag full of candy for the road. She had the candy in plastic buckets with little shovels as the scoops. It was adorable! We left earlier than I would have liked but I was on day 2 of a migraine and my head needed a pillow. Plus, my dad had to work yesterday so he wanted to get to bed. Speaking of the migraine it's still lingering. I'm thinking my allergies are to blame. This is the worst allergy season I have had in a very long time. Are any of you as miserable as I am??

That's about all I have for you today! I promise a more exciting post tomorrow. Happy Monday!

Friday Favorites!

Well, I got my new shoes last night. I was prepared to be there for an hour trying on 5 different shoes because I couldn't decide on anything. That is not how this trip went! It was so painless, I can't even explain to you. Jenn and I went to Runner's Plus in Dayton. The guy that helped us was so knowledgeable and helpful. Turns out that I have been buying the right shoes! YAY! I have been wearing Brooks Ghosts for a few years and I really like them. I just wanted to make sure I was buying what I needed. Without further ado, I give you my new Brooks Ghost 4...

The pink is a little brighter but it didn't photograph well so I just spiced it up with Instagram anyway. They were 20% off so that made my decision pretty easy. I tried on one pair of shoes and bought them. No question.

These are the Ghost 5's. I really really really loved the colors. But, there were going to be about $30 more. Is it really necessary to spend that much more on a pair of shoes for the colors? I decided it wasn't. However, when the next series comes out I might need to get these!

Jenn had been wearing the Adrenaline's and found out that they were the wrong shoes. She has been experiencing some pain and could tell her stride wasn't right. Thankfully, our awesome guy at Runner's Plus figured out it was the shoes and not something serious so she ended up with the same shoes as me! She used to wear Ghosts too so when he told her that's what she should be wearing, we just laughed because of course we would end up with matching shoes!

If you live in the Dayton area I highly recommend you go to Runners Plus. Seriously, you could spend hours looking at all of the great workout gear, shoes, watches, sunglasses, etc. We were only there for maybe 30 minutes and we both got shoes. Such a great experience and I'm glad that I know I'm doing what I should be doing.

To the runners out there, what brand(s) do you typically wear? My brother got his first pair of Brooks a couple of weeks ago. He was a basketball player in high school and he's always been a Nike guy because of that. This was his first pair of legitimate running shoes. He usually buys some kind of cross trainer since he works in a gym. He was excited to show me what he got! We've converted him!

Have a great weekend Ladies! I have a to do list a mile long. The shower is 2 weeks away and I'm heading to Tennessee with my sister's future sister-in-law Jes next weekend for Memorial Day. So, I have to get a lot done this weekend. I'm so looking forward to going to Nashville though!

Why fake it??

I'm not even going to try to pretend that I have kept my workout promise to myself. I haven't done anything this week. I'm not making excuses. I was lazy. My allergies are kicking my butt on the daily and when I get home all I want to do is collapse onto my bed.

I'll be the first to tell you I'm not a morning person. I don't sleep until noon but at the same time I hate hearing my alarm go off. If I could sleep until 8 I would be happy. Maybe it's because I require at least 8 hours of sleep. When I'm running on less I lose all motivation and I turn into a grump. Too many season finales have kept me up past my bedtime and it's starting to affect me! So, working out in the morning is just not my thing. I like to shower the night before because my hair is too temperamental in the mornings. That leaves a few hours after work. Thankfully, the sunset is becoming later and later so I will have more time to fit my workout in!

I'm getting my new shoes TODAY! I think this is part of the reason I didn't care this week. I'm really excited about my new shoes and have no desire to be uncomfortable in my old ones. I'm honestly looking forward to getting outside and running again. If spending $100 on shoes isn't motivation, I don't know what is! I'm so excited to show you what I end up with!

CF night was fantastic. The turn out was amazing. I cannot wait to find out how much money they raised. I got my awesome new CF shirt last night as well.

Al had a portion of his lung removed in the Fall. Hence, the 20% less lung comment! But, he's pretty much a rockstar. By the way, I chose the Chicken and Cheese Empanadas last night and they did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to my leftovers for lunch. My dad got the deep fried mac and cheese (which is also a new menu item) and I was thoroughly impressed by them! Do I need an entire plate? No. But, I freaking love mac and cheese so I enjoyed every minute of it.

Who is pumped for the Grey's finale tonight?! I can't even handle it! I have to get home from shopping so I can plant myself on the couch for what will surely be an emotional hour.

This was the most random post of all time. My apologies! :)

P.S. Today is my 2 year anniversary at my job. It seems like yesterday I was interviewing. I couldn't be happier with the changes I made!

Fashion Favorites!

I haven't shown any fashion favorites in quite some time but there were a couple truly fabulous dresses and some other looks that I adored this past week. Most of them have been floating around the blog world for a few days but who cares! I love them and want to share!

The Duchess rocked this Jenny Packham dress like no one else could. I'm pretty sure this dress was made for her. Absolutely stunning!

I love nothing more than seeing Lea Michelle dressed age appropriately! Her body looks amazing in this dress. She definitely worked it at the Fox Upfronts. Kudos Lea!

Jennifer Lopez is flaunting those amazing legs! She looks great in the all neutral trend that seems to be all the rage with young hollywoood. I look forward to seeing her outfits every week on American Idol.

DH is over but Ms. Eva does not seem to be too upset by it! She looks amazing in this easy spring like outfit. This is one look that I definitely want to re-create.

What do you think of these celeb looks? Is there one that stands out as your favorite? How excited are you that it's Wednesday?! I'm ready for the Cystic Fibrosis waitress night tonight at a local sports bar! 1. It raises money for a great cause and something that my cousin faces on a daily basis. 2. I get to try out the new Summer menu. Jenn and I need a sampler of the entire menu because I don't know how I will pick just one or two things. Have a great day ladies!

P.S. Please tell me that any of the other Glee fans out there cried like a baby last night. Such an emotional episode. I'm going to be a disaster next week! I love season finales because they always pull out the big guns but I HATE waiting months to find out what happens next. HIMYM on Monday totally rocked my world. Grey's tomorrow will be out of hand. Seriously! I can't handle it!

Gold Accents

I'm slowly adding more gold into my wardrobe. I was happy to put a few of those items together yesterday. My outfit felt incredibly Spring/Summer like. Of course, I had to wear my new purchases from New York and Co. I basically could be an add for the store.

Striped Tank: New York and Co.
Cami: Forever 21
Cardigan: New York and Co.
Pants: New York and Co.
Shoes: Target
Watch: Invicta
Necklace: Local Seller

My hair is in a pony tail again. However, I feel like it's different when I'm not doing out necessity! Even though it kind of was because I attempted to leave my hair curly and it was not cute. I'm SO close to having my curly locks back!

I planned to discuss the premiere of The Bachelorette but it started too late for my liking last night. Yes, I'm like an old person that goes to bed incredibly early. I was yawning all day yesterday so I figured staying up until 11 wasn't in my best interest. I'll give my run down on all of the new guys tomorrow! Have a great Tuesday Ladies!!

A few new purchases!

I stopped by New York and Co. to get my mom a Mother's Day gift card on Friday. When I saw that everything was 40% off, I knew I needed to get a few things for a myself.

This tank top is unbelievably comfortable. I'm considering getting a few more of them. I have a feeling I'll be living in them during the Summer. The necklace was purchased at an event my mom and I did this weekend. We were selling our jewelry and I bought jewelry from another local seller. How great is that necklace though?! It was only $16.00! Even better, right??

This sweater also came in pink/coral color as well as black. It's super light weight so I wouldn't mind having another one of them either! The necklace looks great with it.

I needed some necessities at Sephora (eye make up remover and eye liner). I wanted to try a new exfoliating face wash. This is only used 1-2 times per week. It didn't take much so I'm sure it will last a really long time and I will get my $24 out of it. I'm hoping it will help with my breakouts. I think I'm calling a dermatologist this week. I'm over it! I had 2 new breakouts this weekend. UGH!

I got the Coach Poppy and Coach Flower Poppy combo roller ball. You got double points if you bought a perfume and I needed something new to keep in my purse.

I had nearly 800 beauty insider points! Oh My! So, I got the the 500 point perk. With my double point purchase, I'll be at nearly 500 points again. I have a sick obsession with Sephora.

Here are my new products! I've been wanting to try the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer for a while. I love my HD finishing powder and it's almost gone so I'll work on this one until hopefully after the shower when I'll have extra money again!

Here is the breakdown of everything I have in my new cute little pink bag. Which I think will be great for jewelry when I'm traveling.

Lastly, I got some Scentsy melts at the event on Saturday. I didn't have enough cash to buy a warmer but I found this adorable one at Walmart. I'm currently enjoying the smell of Sunlit Morning. I also bought White Sands and Amalfi Coast. I'm definitely loving it so far!

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was pretty good even though my Saturday morning wake up call was much earlier than I would have liked. 6:30 should not be seen on the weekends!
